You, doin' that Thing you do...

The Thing 2011, while seeming to win over part of the general population, is being considered a failure on many levels by critics and horror die-hards.

One of the largest complaints I have seen in regards to the film is it's CGI effects. Almost every shot in the film that involves The Thing are in very amateur, unfinished looking CGI; a complete departure from the brilliant practical effects in the original. Another is that the characters have little backstory or personality, and that instead of building paranoia and suspense with the characters, the film devolves into little more than a creature feature film. These two things run very contrary to what I had heard from the cast & crew during filming. They promised they were sticking very closely in tone, and effect wise, to Carpenter's 1982 film. It appears they did go out there with good intentions. What went wrong? Maybe it wasn't even their fault.

Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'...

Well. 4 months since my last post.

Yeah, I just have a boring life. That's why I originally set out to have a review blog. It's so much easier for me to write about media I've consumed than about myself.

There has been no movement in production (as I am sure you can see in the production blog). I just have no time to do anything. My job is taking up most of my time, and the rest of it I am spending sleeping because of the exhaustion I face from said job.

My job continues to grow more tedious and stressful as I grow to resent it and stop caring about it more and more. My responsibilities there double or triple while my pay and the time I have to tend to them stays the same. I'm putting in countless unpaid hours a day just to try and keep up, and even then it is starting to slip away from me. I need a change in scenery.

I just can't help but feeling I'm throwing my life away.

Bobbson Productions to go live soon.

Well, I still am not fully equipped, have no "staff" (read: friends that will collaborate with me), and I am doing nothing but camera tests and location scouting, but I still have an itch to get something onto the net. It's more of a fact that I want to have something to show off, and I think having this would also make me more motivated to keep working on it.

Anywhoo, the link is http://bobbsonproductions.blogspot.com. It isn't live yet (I still have it marked as hidden) but it should be soon, like within the next week soon.

Later.

Ahhh Wii U, Killer Tofu.

For design tips, The Big N adopted the aesthetics of a tampon.

Yep, Nintendo revealed the follow up to the Wii today. In the tradition of having a stupid name, it's called the Wii U.

Really Nintendo?

Whatever. The thing will be full HD but will not have a hard drive, just flash memory (At least it will compatible with SD cards & USB Flash drives). The controllers will have large HD touchscreens and a camera. And they're shaped like iPads. Imagine trying to play a game on your TV and controlling it with an iPad. Nintendo also said they are somehow integrating motion control into the giant circle jerk of gimmicks.

Seriously, Look how uncomfortable that thing looks.

Yeah, I think you can tell I'm not impressed. It's hard to get excited for the same franchises again, just in HD, on a system that is even more gimmicky than the Wii. I got burned pretty bad on that one*, I'm not so willing to just hand Nintendo my money again.

*I haven't turned on my Wii in more than a year and a half. In fact, it's been unhooked for about 6 months now, to free up the Composite ports on my TV...for a PS2. = |

And somehow you've got everybody fooled

April Fools day...

You won't have to worry about any tacky jokes or tricks on this blog...Although that's mostly because I'm too lazy, and that'd be a lot of work to do, considering no one would be reading it.

I actually remember the day when I ran a website with a friend, and I used to put days of effort leading up to April 1st, designing and creating a gag that would be on the site for only a day. Even then, we had so few visitors that it was not worth it.

Why don't you stand up, be a man about it? Fight with your bare hands about it now.

Feeling much better now.

I'm sort of embarrassed about that last post. I was in a pretty dark place mentally. I'm not deleting it though. It's a good thing for me to see. Keep it as a reminder.

Otherwise, work's going pretty good tonight. I can't wait to get home and watch The Rock return on Raw.

Things can be good, if you really want to work to make them that way.

Pull the trigger and the nightmare stops... Forever you will, forever you will learn

Wow, cryptic title. Sorry about that. My chubby, not too attractive redhead girlfriend broke up with me(That sentence may not be true. LOL Spoony)

Yeah, I'm in a bit of an emo mode today...again, I apologize for that. This last week has been hell and I am running on about 8 hours of sleep for the whole week.

Oscar Night Twitter 2011

Alright, so it's been about a year since I signed up for twitter and started this blog. That means it was Oscar time.

I attempted to live tweet during the show, but my internet has been shit for the last few weeks and I kept losing my connection (It's fixed now though) So I kept typing my tweets anyway, putting them into a text file so I could post them here. So here we go:

The PS3 is dead, long live the PS3!

This weekend, I took advantage of a $70 Best Buy Reward cert. and a $20 gift card, and bought a new Slim PS3 during Best Buy's "Buy a PS3, get a $50 Gift Card" deal.

I've had a original model 60GB, backward compatible PS3 since 2005, and I love that machine. It's been like a tank, plowing through everything I've thrown at it. That is, until recently when it's stopped reading select Blu-Ray movies I've bought. All the movie's I've owned before work fine and have continued to work fine. However, It's been completely random that I might buy 4 Blu-Rays and 1 wont work. (Yes, my firmware was up to date. Also the discs worked in my Dad's PS3.) I actually got up to 12 movies not working in my collection, and that was the breaking point...

So with all these discs not working (This is my only Blu-Ray Player and playing movies is my PS3's primary function) and the fact that I was getting occasional other weird glitches, I decided to pick up a new one. I really like the slim model too, it's nice and quiet and much more compact. Only complaint is the lack of card readers built in (At least I have a USB card reader) and the lack of backwards compatibility (Guess I'll have to pick up a new PS2). I moved my larger HDD from the old PS3 and copied over all my data, now I just need to re-download all my PSN purchases. That sure is a bitch...

Yeah he's a professor...of being a dog.

Well, today I made a facebook account. I was resisting it for a long time, but one of my friends convinced me to do it, so I did.

I'm not going to be sitting here all day clicking on a little virtual farm or anything, but it's nice to have a way to connect to some people I haven't talked to in a while again. Anyway, back to work.

...Scratch Mode'd.
